The Lyrebird Foundation and Ethan Indigenous match up for International Women’s Day with a landmark T20, putting the spotlight on women in cricket—how’s that?
The Lyrebird Foundation has been established to promote gender equality to drive social change through empowering women and girls in cricket. The organisation provides training and education opportunities, advocating for diversity and inclusion, as well as offering scholarships and investing heavily in research to drive change.
With a board featuring cricket legends Meg Lanning and Geoff ‘Henry’ Lawson, the Foundation is committed to levelling the playing field at all levels from players on the field to leaders in management, marketing, and media. The day is set to highlight diversity in sport, and break down barriers in the industry, through including international players from countries who aren’t provided the same opportunity as Australians in sport.
Major sponsor and indigenous women’s cricket team, Ethan Indigenous is dedicated to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities through education and employment opportunities in the Information Technology sector.
CEO and Co-Founder, Tony Geagea says “Working with organisations who share the same vision for closing the gap in pay and opportunity amplifies our message, but it also just makes creating social change that little bit more achievable. Finding allies like the Lyrebird Foundation is a success in itself. We’re looking forward to watching some impressive cricket on Friday”.
Lyrebird Foundation Director Meg Fanning says "I would like to thank the Ethan Indigenous for taking the initiative to support our Foundation and sponsor this match. Partners like Ethan Indigenous play a crucial role in creating opportunities for women in sport. The development of our International Academy for Women’s Cricket is an exciting step forward—not just for athletes but for future leaders in the sport. I’m proud to be part of an initiative breaking down barriers and building a stronger, more inclusive future for women in cricket."
The T20 match will take place on March 6 at Bradman Oval, featuring an international lineup of International players from the Netherlands, England, Afghanistan, and Australia.
